About this trip

Start your new year in true Her Wilderness fashion, bold, brave, and bundled up on the breathtaking coast of Maine. This adventure brings women together for an unforgettable guided sea duck hunting experience in one of North America’s most iconic waterfowling destinations. Owls Head offers stunning views, historic lighthouses, and the kind of raw coastal beauty that leaves a lasting impression.

Each morning, we’ll launch into the salty Atlantic before sunrise, where the cold air, crashing waves, and distant calls of beautiful eiders and sneaky scoters set the tone for an exhilarating hunt. Led by experienced local guides, we’ll target sea ducks like common eider, black scoter, surf scoter, and long-tailed duck (formerly known as old squaw), learning the techniques and traditions unique to hunting in this powerful maritime environment.

Whether you're an experienced waterfowler or a curious newcomer ready to dive into the world of sea duck hunting, this trip is designed to challenge, inspire, and connect you. You'll leave with new skills, unforgettable memories, and a deeper sense of confidence and camaraderie.

When we’re not on the water, we’ll warm up with hearty meals and cozy beachside lodging! There will be time to rest, share stories, and soak in the simple pleasure of unplugging in a place that feels like the edge of the world.

WHAT’S INCLUDED:
• 3 nights of lodging in a shared coastal cabin or lodge
• 2 days of fully guided sea duck hunting with licensed Maine guides
• Boats, decoys, and all hunt logistics provided
• Community connection with other adventurous women

Sea duck hunting along the Maine coast is a unique and thrilling experience that often involves early morning boat launches into the frigid Atlantic. We'll primarily hunt from layout-style boats or custom sea duck rigs set just offshore, giving us optimal positioning for decoying birds. These hunts target fast-flying species like common eider, long-tailed ducks, and all three species of scoter as they move along the coastal flyways. Depending on weather and conditions, we may also set up near rocky outcroppings or islands where sea ducks raft up and feed. The guides will adjust strategies daily based on bird movement and tides to ensure the best opportunities, and the most authentic Maine experience!

TRAVEL & AIRPORT INFORMATION
Owls Head, Maine is located along the beautiful Midcoast region, just minutes from the charming town of Rockland. The closest airport is Knox County Regional Airport (RKD), located right in Owls Head—just a short drive from our lodging. This small regional airport offers limited commercial flights, so another popular option is flying into Portland International Jetport (PWM), about 2 hours south, or Bangor International Airport (BGR), approximately 2.5 hours north. We recommend holding off on booking any flights or travel arrangements until we’ve had a group discussion. This allows us to coordinate arrival times, potential carpools, and any shared transportation options to make your journey as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

LODGING ACCOMMODATION

The lodging accommodations that are included in your trip are always tailored to women looking for a welcoming and spacious atmosphere to foster friendships! Please note that during this trip, you may need to share a bed / bedroom with another participant. We appreciate your understanding as this helps foster a sense of camaraderie and community among all attendees. Feel free to socialize in the kitchen and living areas or enjoy the fresh air outside. Whether you’re joining us for a quick weekend getaway or an extended stay, we strive to choose an environment that nurtures a sense of community while providing all the comforts of home. Embrace the chance to make new friends and create lasting memories during this unique experience! Once you connect with your trip coordinator, they will share more specific details about your lodging accommodations.

FAQ’S AND POLICY

Yes, we know this part might seem a bit tedious, but it’s important! We kindly ask that everyone who registers for a trip visits the FAQs and Policy page on our website. If you sign up for a trip without reviewing this information, it’s your responsibility. There’s a wealth of valuable information there that could influence your decision. Please make sure to check out all the FAQs and Policies on our website before signing up for a trip with us. Thank you!

EXPECTATIONS + NO DRAMA

We want to ensure that every trip with Her Wilderness is enjoyable and memorable, but we acknowledge that sometimes things don’t go as planned. Mother Nature has a significant impact on our outdoor adventures, so we encourage you to approach each trip with a positive attitude and a "go with the flow" mindset. If this feels unreasonable to you, we kindly ask that you reconsider registering for our events. Weather can be unpredictable, affecting activities like hiking, hunting, and fishing, and our top priority is always your safety. For instance, if your trip is focused on duck hunting but our guide believes a goose hunt is more feasible, we will follow their expert recommendation. If this kind of flexibility is not something you're comfortable with, we encourage you to think twice about joining us. We expect all participants to maintain a positive attitude, regardless of the circumstances. Many of our trips have faced changes, cancellations, or rescheduling, yet the understanding and adaptability of the group have made all the difference that still allows for an incredible experience! We take pride in creating fun experiences, even in challenging situations. Please be aware that our trips may involve sharing accommodations with others, unpredictable weather that could impact planned activities, limited bathroom facilities for larger groups, and the possibility of not harvesting the specific animal you hoped for. These are real scenarios that can arise, and while we’ll do our best to minimize issues, they can happen. We strive to maintain a drama-free and stress-free environment. If any participant brings negativity or drama, they will be asked to leave without a refund and will not be allowed to return. Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and valued, so we ask for your cooperation in keeping a cool, calm, and collected attitude throughout the trip. We truly appreciate each of our customers and are committed to providing the best possible experience for all participants. Thank you for understanding, and we look forward to creating unforgettable memories together!

This was probably my favorite trip by far with Her Wilderness! The entire week was planned out perfectly. I cannot wait to go back again next year!
By Brianna F for ALASKA HALIBUT + SALMON COMBO on Jul 24, 2025
This was an amazing trip. HerWilderness does an amazing job curating the best experiences. From salmon fishing on the beautiful Kasilof River with top notch Chadwick’s Guide Service, to a scenic fly-in to the glacial waters of Crescent Lake in Lake Clark National Park for fishing and bear watching, to Halibut fishing while being entertained by multiple pods of Orcas and Humpback whales….Alaska showed up on this trip! Enjoying the trip with ladies from Washington to Maine and as far south as Oklahoma was icing on the cake. The planning for the trip was well done (with flexibility for a free day woven in) and the coordinator set clear expectations and prepped us well. Amazing trip.

Great coordinator (Tia). Excellent outfitter, food, people. My new mantra is do it now before you can’t. I may be the older one in the group, but these young ladies would never let you feel like you weren’t included. 100% recommend

This was my third trip for the ice fishing with Her Wilderness and I 100% recommend! The guides are so helpful and provide great advice to improve your fishing experience. The trip coordinator is amazing, has everything prepared from food to lodging! She makes sure that every single person is taken care of, and really focuses on those that have never been ice fishing before and assists the guides!
